Early Morning Exercise

Today was swim day. I admit that this morning when the alarm went off this morning I was having second thoughts about heading to the pool.  I have not been going to the gym on Wednesday so I had no idea how crowded the pool would be. And yes, sometimes I have to wait for lane or share one. I’m not fond of sharing a lane because I do not think  I swim very well and it is just hard to share. This morning I was surprised. No one was in the pool area. I love it when I’m able to have the whole pool area by myself. I love the smooth water that is only disturbed by my swimming. I love it that I do not need to worry that someone will want to share a lane with me or be wairing for me to be donet. As I swim my mind starts to notice the light. First it is the light from the fixtures above the pool. Then as the sun rises the light changes. The fixtures turn off and the room is full of sunlight. Before I took up swimming I would listen to music as I exercised. This is not a choice when swimming.  So at first my mind is full of thoughts like what I plan to do for the day or just thinking about yesterday but the longer I swim all thoughts disappear and all I notice is my breathing. I do try very hard to keep track of how many laps I swim but it is hard so me to keep track. I do not worry to much. Today I think I did 25 laps…not bad for 45 minutes of swimming.

The best part afterward though is stretching in the hot tub. The water feels so good on my muscles. I’m so glad I got myself out of bed….
