Marc and I decided to play hooky from work. We rode the ferry over to Bolivar Peninsula to check out the beach. This area was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ike. It is very primitative – no bathrooms or showers. There are no stores where you can buy items that are forgotten. We made our list and thought we had every thing we needed – that is – except chairs. We also needed bug spray for the horseflies. We will be better prepared the next time. We were able to drive the truck on to the sand and stake out our spot. We were pleasantly surprised to find the beach practically deserted. We spent the afternoon splashing in the water, walking up and down the beach and soaking up the sun. It was a very enjoyable experience. We packed up and headed home and arrived back in Friendswood around 8:00 pm. Just in time to check out the Sonic. Emily is working there and we had to give her a hard time and of course order some ice cream. It was a very good day.
Book Review: Spectacular Sins and Their Global Purpose in the Glory of Christ By John Piper
This book is not for the faint hearted. I have been struggling with the question of God’s sovereignty and how come God allows sin to happen for some time. I was drawn to read this book to find the answer to these types of questions. Biblical stories that I am familiar with are discussed is such a way to point to how sin has a purpose – and that purpose is to glorify Christ.
To Busy for Life
Sometimes work intrudes on life. Work is a good thing – I earn money when I work and then money is needed for those essentials of life. However, sometimes it seems that work takes over and it is hard to enjoy life. That is especially true for me – working on tax returns. It is always such a mad rush every year to get as many tax returns done before April 15th comes around. And let me tell you – by that time I am just sick of thinking about and doing tax returns. I actually think my brain turns into mush. Tomorrow will be April 30. Fifteen days have gone by and it still seems hectic at the office. No matter – I am going to try to take my life back. That is – get out of the office and do something other than work.

Sticks and stones may break my bones.
As a kid who did not use the words when somebody was calling them names. I know that I have used those words. But I think that everyone knows that those words lie. Words become powerful. They can build somebody up and they can tear people down. My daughter sent me this link from You tube and I think it is so powerful. The video is long but I think well worth watching. It shows how validating the people around you can brighten their day. The challenge that I am giving myself is to validate those around me to make their day a brighter day. Will you join me in my challenge?

Spring

My Blue Bonnets
Today is the first day of spring. It was beautiful. The sun was bright and shining. The weather was just right – not too hot or too cold. The perfect day to work in the yard. The flowers are blooming.

My Azalea flower bed
It was too pretty of a day to be indoors. But what was I doing??? Working on tax returns. Such is the life of a tax accountant.
After working late, my husband and I went to Lowe’s. This is the time of year I love the gardening section. And of course, I did buy plants that will need to be planted. One of my purchases was a pencil cactus. The cashier was telling a story about his father poking his eye with his pencil cactus. I hope I do not poke my eye. We also bought some begonias. The plan now is to find time this weekend to put these plants in the ground.
What did you do on the first day of Spring?

What music is in your heart?
I love this video. I hope that my heart is singing praises to God. What is your heart saying?

Did you remember to wear green today?
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. As I rushed out the door this morning I remembered I need to wear something green. Fortunately, I found a pair of green ear rings. To finish off the day, I tried my hand at cooking Corned Beef with potatoes and cabbage along with some Irish Soda Bread. The Corned Beef was excellent – How can you mess it up when it comes in a bag with all the seasonings ready to go. Now the bread was interesting. It looked liked a giant biscuit and come to think of it- it tasted like one too. I would love to hear how you spent your Saint Patrick’s Day.

First Post on Reflections
To blog or not to blog. That is the question. I have been thinking about blogging for some time now and it is pretty intimidating to put thoughts out in cyberspace for all to read and to judge. I was amazed how easy it was to start up. So I thought my blog must have a name. Names are important so after thinking some more – my brain is starting to hurt – I decided on the name Reflections.
I looked this word up online. The Merriam-Webster dictionary states that a reflection is a thought, idea, or opinion formed on as a result of meditation. That sounds like an interesting blog to me – reflection on a thought, idea or opinion. Another definition for reflections is the production of an image by or as if in a mirror. Well, I do want my blog to reflect an image. So I began to think about what type of image do I want this blog to have. Well, because it will consist of my thoughts and writings it must reflect me and things I believe in. So that is the question for today. What do I believe in? Do I believe in money, people – or a greater being? I believe in Christ as my Savior. I believe that I am to reflect his image in my words, actions and deeds. I know many times my reflection is dull and does not give a proper image of my Savior at all. But I think that is okay if each day I do my best to work on this reflection.
