The Christmas Cards are Done

Yippee!!! The cards are done.  The cards are done.  After much anguish on my part, I finally just decided to mail the cards with the typo.  I showed the cards to my co-workers and here were the suggestions they offered and which I considered:

  1. Reprint the cards.  I really wanted to do this but Marc did not want to so that is what we decided to do.  The trade off – I did not have to write the annual Christmas letter.
  2. Find a white/silver pen and put the r on you  and make it a “funny” by writing “oops” on the card.  Well, I did find a white and silver pen.  I spent $6 on the pens. (Should of just reprinted the cards but then I might be given the job of the Christmas letter.  No, I really do not want to write the Christmas letter.  I will just get the pens and try this “oops” suggestion.)

Well, after trying to make a “funny” on the card we decided that we were just making my mistake jump off the page – not pretty.  We decided to just send the cards and pray that no one will really notice – or maybe they will think we did not notice and have a holiday spirit about it and not point it out to me.  Like that will happen but we can always hope.

The thing about this whole matter is that when I was looking up the addresses for the cards we sent last year I came across a note that said  that I did not send out any cards.

Oh well……………

Working on Those Christmas Cards

We have received a couple of Christmas cards the last couple of days.  The more cards I receive I begin to think about my plans regarding sending out the annual cards.  Such as – should I just buy cards and sign our names; should I try to get a picture and do one of those family cards (This is the one my husband likes.); should I sent out the family newsletter or just not even bother this year. (Not even bothering with sending Christmas cards is my favorite but in reality that is not the one I ever choose.)

So I spend the afternoon looking through all the pictures taken throughout the year.  This is what I discovered.  We have very few pictures of us together.  Most of my pictures are of scenery, assorted things and my husband.  And then my husband takes pictures of things that interest him and of me…but not together.  The only picture I found of us together was on the  4th of July weekend.

To me this picture surrounded by snowflakes looked out of place.  I think it is the tank top and sunglasses that does it for me.  So then we spend some time trying to take some pictures.  We tried some outside, outside with the dogs, inside and inside with the dogs.  This is the picture we finally decided upon.

Not to bad.  I started looking at local places where you can order the cards from home and then pick them up an hour later.  I finally decided on Wal-mart.  After recovering my password.  I designed my card.  I was pretty pleased with the whole process and it seemed to be going fairly quickly. I called Marc over to look at my hard work and he seemed pleased, too.  I sent my order off and set up text notifications.  I then proceeded to get ready for Sunday night worship services.  My satisfaction of this whole project increased immensely when 20 minutes later I received a text that the order was ready.  I sent Marc over to Wal-mart to pick up the photos while I was driving to the church building.  Long story short – when I finally got home and looked at the cards I was completely mad at myself for the typo.  This is bugging my like crazy.  Part of me wants to just reorder the cards (the whole order was only $11) and then part of me thinks that is kind of wasteful.  Marc just thinks I should stop being a perfectionist and that nobody will notice. So here is the card – Should I just ignore the typo?

Random Thoughts on December 10, 2011

  1. Well, I finally have a Pinterest account.  It seemed to me that I have been trying to get an account since Thanksgiving.  Finally, after begging my daughter for an invitation I was off the waiting list and accepted.  I am still trying to learn how it all works.  I do know that there are a lot of interesting things on the internet…. like Choffy.
  2. Yesterday afternoon my Choffy came in the mail. I was very impressed with how fast it came, too.   Choffy is roasted Cocoa beans that you brew like you do coffee.  I love dark chocolate so when I saw this on the internet I knew I would like it.  I decided to make some  in my regular coffee maker.  (The recommended method is to use a french press.)  It look a long time for the water to drip through to the pot.  I stirred in a little bit of Stevia and some half and half into my cup.  It had a good chocolate taste.  Anyway, I decided that while I was out shopping I would  buy a french press.
  3. What was I thinking today —-  During the week, I made my annual mammogram for Saturday. For starters, I was paranoid that I would forget my appointment.  I could not concentrate on anything prior to the appointment.   I also thought since the mammogram place was by the mall that I would do a little shopping – pick up some Christmas gifts and of course a french press – surely it would not be to crowded yet. Was I wrong!  The traffic was a nightmare.  The stores were crowded.  The checkout lines were long.  I did get the french press but I had to bite my tongue when a lady cut in front of me in the check out lane.
  4. Tonight for supper I decided that I would make a pizza.  Usually, my husband likes to have just a pepperoni or hamburger pizza.  But because he was working I could be a little creative with my toppings.  So I made a hamburger, Kalamata olives, spinach, bacon pizza.  It was pretty tasty.

Now I am pretty tired — I think I will get ready for bed and read the last few remaining chapters of the “Hunger Games”.

Making Pumpkin Bread

My dear sweet Emily is coming home from college tomorrow for Thanksgiving break.  She requested that I make some pumpkin bread so I spent the evening doing just that.  I took these pictures with my little Sony Cyber-shot.  I took some with flash/no flash/ or flash that highlights the background. I only wish I could tell which picture was the best picture from all the options I was using.

Socks

I was going through the pictures  in my camera and I came across this picture of Socks.  Socks was twelve years old when this picture was taken.  You can not see it very well but she has a bump on her back that is cancer.  This cancer is caused from the shots that were given to her though the years between her shoulder blade by the vet.  At the time, it was not known that giving animals shots in the same place can cause a cancerous growth.

I love this picture of her.  I just wished that I had some pictures of her when she was younger.

Shopping on the Weekend

This weekend my dear husband was working on both Saturday and Sunday so it was a perfect opportunity for me to get some shopping done on Saturday.  I love going to Kohl’s when I have a 30% off coupon.  I purchased 2 turtleneck sweaters, 2 little girl dresses, some exercise pants, and a new commercial brownie pan.  The total bill was $89.38.  According to the receipt I saved a total of $137.42.  I also received a $10.00 cash to use at Kohl’s next week.

The little dresses are for a 3 year old I am sponsoring for Christmas.  To complete the outfits I needed to get some tights, shoes and some underwear.  I was disappointed that I could not find these at Kohl’s so I headed over to Wal-mart.  I was able to pick up the rest of the items there along with these really cute monkey dolls.  I was so taken with these dolls that I purchased three of them.  I am giving one to the little girl.

While I was posing the dolls, Maximus kept on trying to steal the dolls.  Here is Maximus looking sheepishly out of the window after I chastised him.

What Does Free Really Mean?

Today I was looking at the Amazon website to purchase the book “Christmas Jars” by Jason F. Wright for the December book club meeting.  I knew that books could be borrowed much like a library on the kindle and I thought that I would check into this feature.  It is free for prime members.  I then began to wonder – who is a prime member.  Well, a prime member is one who pays a yearly fee of $79.  So my questions it this – is it really free if I have to pay a membership fee?  I am sure the membership fee contains other perks which I have not checked out.  But overall,  this does not sound free to me.  What do you think?

My Wild Hair

As an accountant I usually like things to be predictable. However, this weekend I am on a wild hair. On the spur of the moment I decided to visit with my sister. We spent Saturday morning at the American Heart Association Walk at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Here is a picture of the Harbor Bridge.

What to be For Halloween

http://meme-meme.org/post/11973673491/this-is-confusing

It is that time of year that I begin to think about what to be for Halloween.  I came across this picture and was wondering if I should do this? Any thoughts?

Neat Desk Scanner – Do I want one?

The other day I saw one of these advertised on the television and thought this is just what I need to get organized. One of my favorite pastimes is to look at magazines and tear out the parts of the magazine that I think I want to keep. I have hundreds of magazines pages of recipes that I want to make but never have the time to do it. I thought wouldn’t this machine be perfect for getting all those magazines recipes organized. I know, I know – if I just threw them away and then just stopped tearing up magazines then I would not have to worry about all these pieces of paper that I need do do something with. The Neat Desk Scanner sales for $380.00 on amazon.com. That is pretty steep for a scanner especially when I already have one of those combination scanner/fax/printers for my computer. I was especially envious when a critique on the Neat Scanner was done on one of the blogs that I keep up with. Of course, it got rave reviews – I would give it rave reviews if the company sent me one to try for free. I know, I know – it is just sour grapes because I have all these unorganized papers but not a new Neat Scanner to organize them.
