Well, today will be my first full day back at the office. After thinking about yesterday, I decided to go in for a few hours and see the damage that was in my e-mails and on top of my desk. I wanted to prepare myself so my blood pressure would not go through the roof. I only worked for about 3 hours. This is what I learned…..my chair is as hard as a rock and my bum was killing my after only three hours.
So…..here is my new “best friend”….that is – if an inanimate object can be your best friend. 😜
I have written before how my favorite time of the day is early morning when I read the paper and drink lots of coffee. Of course to do this, I get up early, early….well, the Houston Chronicle had been letting me down for the last several months. The paper was being delivered late….I could not read it before having to get ready for work so I was reading the online edition. While I have been recuperating, it was not a problem because I was not going anywhere. I was paying a lot of money to actually get a real paper that I could turn real pages, spill my coffee on, and tear out articles, and most importantly work the Suduko puzzle. (I always think I will have a mentally sharp day if I can complete the puzzle rather quickly….) So, yesterday I took the step of canceling the real paper and getting the online edition only. I will be saving a lot of money…the online edition is only $2.50 per week, while the subscription I had cost $7.55 per week. Don’t know what I will do about the puzzle.
Since I’m trying to get back to my “regular” routine, I decided to finally step on the scale. I was afraid of what the numbers would be because I think I look about 4-5 months pregnant. Surprise, surprise….I was down 5 pounds. After giving it some thought….that is probably how much my uterus weighed since the doctor said it was the size of a watermelon. 😜
Thanks for listening to my lamenting.

Tax season was over on October 15. We survived….barely. Three weekends have happened since then. The first weekend was spent relaxing at Garner State Park. I took pictures and hope to one day get them out of my camera. The second weekend was spent cleaning house. Normally cleaning is not my favorite thing but after 8 weeks of doing the chores just to get by…it felt good to clean. Mi just need to get back on track with cleaning, organizing, downsizing the junk in my at home work space. I do feel that all that stuff is stifling my creativity….
This weekend I went to the Pearland Fire Department wet down. A wet down is like a boat christening. In a wet down the fire trucks spray water on the new fire trucks and fire station. I did take pictures but they are still stuck in my camera…..
The last couple of weeks I have slacked off exercising….especially running. This morning I put on the running shoes…or should I say jogging shoes and did an easy thirty minute run/jog. I need to get in shape for the annual Holiday Run the first week in December. I’m practicing on my mental talk to myself when I run. My mind always wants me to slow down and walk. I did it….I ran the entire 30 minutes. I’m proud of myself.

This weekend I received one of the books that I ordered from Amazon to help me with my goal of “more energy”. The book is titled “The Oxygen Diet Solution.” If I follow the diet exactly as laid out in the book, I will be eating a lot of eggs for breakfast and salad for lunch and dinner.
Using the book, I was able to come up with an exercise routine. My plan is to exercise 6 days a week.
Monday – 30 minutes weights/30 minutes cardio. For the cardio, I will be using the Couch to 5K program to train for the Color Run I signed up for.
Tuesday – 45 minutes cardio. (Spin Class at the gym.)
Wednesday – 3o minutes weights/30 minutes cardio.
Thursday – 60 minutes cardio. I will split this using my at home work out equipment. I have a treadmill and an elliptical trainer.
Friday – 45 minutes cardio. (Spin class at the gym.)/30 minutes of weights. I usually come home right from the gym to read the paper and start my day. This will be the hardest day to do….I will have to cut something out of my morning routine to get in that extra 30 minutes without being late for work. (Technically, I have Friday’s off but tax season is gearing up so I think Friday’s off will be going by the wayside until after April 15.)
Saturday – 60 minutes of cardio. (Spin class at the gym.)
Sunday – Active rest.
Every day I will still need check my pedometer to make sure that I am walking 10,000 steps per day. From my past experience, even though I exercise in the morning, it is hard to get in the 10,000 steps.
I was proud of myself this weekend. I worked on one of my “nagging projects”. Maybe I will be able to finish it tonight while I am watching “Biggest Losers.” I also worked on cleaning up in my office. I have a rather huge pile to take to the Goodwill place.
In the book, “The Happiness Project”, the key to success was to keep a log. I did e-mail Grethen Rubin and she sent me her Resolutions Chart. I started on my own chart but I am not happy with it. I am making it a goal this week to get my chart arranged in such a way that I can start using it and hopefully, be successful in my project.

Today while I was exercising I was thinking about “toss, restore, organize”, the diet apps on my electronic devices and my Fitbit that I’m using to track my 10,000 steps per day. January 1 it was easy to get on the steps because we went to the new outlet mall in Texas City. It has been harder since I am back at the office all day sitting on my buttocks.
Now for my quandary…I have the Sparkpeople app; the Fitbit app, and the MyFitness Pal app on my electronic devices. They are taking up space and they are also redundant.
I have been using Sparkpeople for a long time. When I first started using Sparkpeople, I thought it was comparable to Weight Watchers online but for free. I was excited when the mobile phone app became available and I could then record my food choices right away. I have many of my meals listed as favorites so it is even easier to record what I eat. I really liked Sparkpeople when I discovered that I could sync my Fitbit. I was disappointed that the food did not sync between the apps.
Many of my family members started using MyFitness Pal. I downloaded the app because I thought it would be nice to get and send encouragement on our fitness goals. I used the app for a few days but I went back to using Sparkpeople, mainly because of the personal food database I had created over the years. The big advantage to using MyFitnessPall is that it does sync both the food and the activity.
These should seem like a “no brainier”. MyFitness Pal does the things that I want to happen with regard to syncing.
So in the effort to “toss, restore, organize” I’m going to remove the Sparkpeople app from my phone and IPad. Somehow, it feels like I’m removing a friend….

Today I am trying out Lavish. It is old fashion instant oatmeal flavored with dark chocolate. One serving has 160 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 3 grams of dietary fiber, 4 grams of protein and 12 grams of sugar. This product caught my eye at the grocery store because one of the things I like to eat is old fashion oatmeal sprinkled with dark chocolate chips and a little bit of sweetener.
When I compare the ingredients of one serving of old fashion oatmeal with chocolate chips, I come up with 220 calories, 7.5 grams of fat, 6 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 6 grams of sugar.
Even though the old fashion oatmeal has more calories and fat, it has more fiber and protein and less sugar. Which one do you think is healthier? I would say the old fashion oatmeal.
Well, in my opinion the Lavish old meal is not as good as old fashion oatmeal with dark chocolate chips!

After aqua Zumba, I knew that the only thing waiting at home was a sweltering house. So I decided to stop by McDonald’s to try their new strawberry lemonade. Actually, I thought I had coupon for a free one. Well, I dug through my piles and piles of paper to find the coupons only to discover they expired on June 15. No matter. I will splurge. Two strawberry lemonades-one for E. And one for me. The 16 ounce size costs $1.57. According, to a diet website the 16 ounce size has 270 calories. No problem – I am sure or rather hope I burned as many calories as they advertise when doing Zumba.

This morning I was having a hard time getting started – feeling lazy, not wanting to exercise. I was feeling down because I have started this challenge on “Walking off Every Bulge” and I am having a hard time being honest about writing down what I eat. I like to think of myself as an honest person who can keep their promises – even when these promises are to myself. But I am discovering that I can’t. I cheat all the time. But then I was looking at some of the stories on Sparkpeople.com and I came across this video. It was just what I needed to day to get up and start moving.
