This past Sunday during worship services we sang the following song.
When Upon Life’s Billows
When upon live’s billows you are temptest-tossed,
When you are discourage thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Are ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all:
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
Chorus: Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God had done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God had done.
This song seems to have more meaning for me this year. Many of my friends are dealing with money issues, health issues, and relationship issues. For me it seems that maybe I have been tossed about some and have gotten discouraged. So I thought it would be appropriate for me to make a Thanksgiving list this year of my blessings.
1. I am thankful for God and his saving grace.
2. I am thankful for my kids who are young adults – even when it seems at times that we do not get along so well.
3. I am thankful for my husband who loves me even when I am not being the nicest person.
4. I am thankful that my husband and I have jobs so we are able to pay our bills.
5. I am thankful that we have our health – even though we have aches and pains.
6. I am thankful for our house – a place to sleep.
7. I am thankful that I live in America.
8. I am thankful for my extended family. It is hard this year because we are not able to be together like we have been for past Thanksgiving Day.
9. I am just plain thankful that I have been granted another day of life.
