My daughter is home from college for Thanksgiving break. One of the things that she likes to do when she is home is to go to the movies. I am fortunate that she likes to go with me. We decided to go to this particular movie on Sunday afternoon. Luckily, we arrived in just enough time to get tickets for the 1:45pm showing. We were excited about no line – that is until it dawned on us we would probably get lousy seats. We ended up sitting on the second roll. Surprisingly, my neck did not get too sore.
Usually when I go to the movies, the movie has been out for a while so finding seats and waiting in lines is sort of foreign to me. Also, is being in a theater full of people – mainly teenage girls is pretty different too. I do believe that every time Jacob Black took off his shirt every teenage girl sighed. I thought this movie had more action scenes than the first movie. (During the first movie I got pretty tired of all the love-sick staring between Bella and Edward Cullen.)
Basically, this movie is about a girl in love with a vampire. They cannot be together, because every time the girl hurts herself and bleeds it causes an uproar in the family. The vampire family decides to leave. Bella then spends a lot of time as a forlorn heartbroken teenager. She does discover that if she does anything that puts her in jeopardy that Edward’s image appears to warn her. Bella decides that riding fast motorcycles will be what she needs to bring up Edward’s image. She gets her friend Jacob Black to help refurbish these motorcycles. Over the course of time they become very close. Bella also discovers that her friend also had supernatural powers – the ability to change into a wolf. Now the wolves protect the people from the vampires.
Who will Bella choose? Jacob the wolf or Edward the vampire. Bella chooses Edward. She races against time to keep Edward from showing himself in the light and to save him from the Volturi.
Actually, I am not sure how I feel about this movie. I like to read books and watch movies about a boy meeting a girl and they somehow fall in love. But, something in this love story is disturbing to me. I think it is because I am not comfortable with the idea of being in love with a vampire and the idea of suicide that is in this movie. I know it kind of has a Romeo and Juliet theme. So I wonder if I have never really ever liked the story of Romeo and Juliet?
