I do not know if I am like the rest of the population. But I have a problem with socks. No matter how hard I try I end up with a bunch of socks that have no mates. How can this happen? I wash all the socks and every single time I will have a couple of them that are “singles”. I do have this rather large box (a shoe box that boots came in) that is stuffed full of single socks. Every time I get a single in the wash I carefully check the “box”. I am quite excited whenever I find a match. But most of the time another single is added to the box. This box has become overcrowded.
As an accountant, my workload was lightened up considerably. Our office is closing on Fridays until the new year arrives. At this annoucement my heart pounds with excitement. How does this relate to socks? Well, I will be able to catch up on housework that has been neglected for sometime. Well, I started looking under the cushions of the sofa and what do I find??? Socks!!! I think under every chair or sofa that has cushions on them had socks stuffed in them. I decided that I would also clean in the spare bedrooms. I have these now since my son has moved out and my daughter is away at college. Well, under the pillows were my socks.
Somebody is stealing my socks!! Since I was home all day today, I caught the culprit. It is my “sweet” dog Corky. He is taking my socks that I stuff in my shoes and then sleeping on them.
So today, I washed up all the socks. Looked through the “single” box and matched up as many as I could. Then I did a very liberating thing – I through the rest of the socks away. I am sure that in a couple of months time my “singles” box will be full again. But I now know that I must check under the cushions/pillows for socks that my sock thief has taken.
